  1. Hi Kelly,
Thanks for signing up for the class. I’m excited to see Scottsdale! This is a question that I get often. In the certification class we do 7 projects in 3 days. Each of the projects has multiple steps involved. Most metal clay classes out there will have you complete one project or maybe two in a day. So in comparison things move quite quickly in the class. The more comfortable you are working with the clay the easier the class will be.

Both newer students of metal clay and more experienced users will benefit from practicing dry-to-dry assembly. Dry-to-dry assembly is when there is piece of bone dry clay and you attach it to another piece of bone dry clay. Remember put water on both pieces then add slip at the join and hold for at least 3 seconds. Also, being comfortable sanding bone dry pieces will be helpful. Practice sanding the edge of a bone dry piece of clay to a razor sharp beveled edge. Get this technique down and the rest is cake!

All this being said, the most important thing in certification is to come to class with an open mind, positive attitude and willingness to learn new techniques. Although things are fast pace there is always time for questions. I strive to create a safe learning space for all levels of metal clay experience. We are there to share, learn and have fun in the process!

I hope that helps. If you need anything else let me know!

    See you soon!
