TH-06: Metal Clay: The Versatile Lentil Bead

In this workshop, we’ll explore making lentil beads (saucer beads) with metal clay. We’ll use ordinary household items to shape and mold metal clay. This versatile bead can be drilled in the front to create a pendant, or drilled in the center or on the sides to make a bead. It can also be dissected to create complex forms. Students will learn: beginning/intermediate metal clay techniques, how to create hollow forms using household items, and how to assemble and layer metal clay. Students will also learn finishing techniques and how to apply patinas. Beginner or advanced beginners will benefit from this workshop. Students Bring: Basic metal clay tool kit: Roller, playing cards or slats, release agent, work surface, pin tool, rubber tipped clay shaper, set of sanding sponges, 400 grit wet/dry emery paper, spray bottle with water and brush, brass brush, and ruler. Students may also want to bring texture plates or other texture making tools.
