Last year I submitted a couple of pieces to the Sinter 2024 Conference and Exhibit in the UK. Last week I got notice that one of my pieces was selected as one of 22 artists to exhibit their work at the conference and online. I won’t be able to make it to the UK this time. However, it is such an honor to be included with the other artists.
This piece was originally conceived as a flower. I have always be intrigued by the structure of plants, the dahlia flower for instance. Or shape of a chrysanthemum or sunflower. The structure of a dahlia is both architectural and bold, yet delicate. With this as my jumping off point I reimagined the flower. After many design studies, I ended up eliminating some key elements such as the stem and leaves. The absence of these key elements left a literal void, a deficit. Using diminishing perspective on the back of the brooch to emphasize the absent elements and in the process creating a focal point seen only by the wearer.
