I got an email from a customer a few months ago. She had bought a ring from me years and years ago. I remember the ring because I had tough time giving it up to sell. At the time, it represented a major accomplishment and forward movement in my design and construction techniques. Back then there was only PMC Standard. The mere idea of making a ring of this type in PMC Standard today would be unthinkable, but back then there where no other options. So it for it come back to me broken was no surprise. The fact it lasted so many years was a real surprise. Seeing the design again after so many years away made me cringe. My mind started wondering…”What was I thinking?”, “Why did I do that? …I should have really done X. ” So wanting to re-prove myself as an artist I offered to remake the ring in PMC Sterling, for only the cost of the material. It would give me chance to redo the ring the right way. To my surprise the customer did not want to do it. She explained that the ring was very sentimental to her and the fact that it has some dings and it wasn’t perfect was part of it’s history. Her history. I reluctantly understood. So I repaired her ring and sent it back. Stay tuned for how I did the repair.
