Anna Wintour

Do you know Anna Wintour? I recently saw the documentary on Vogue’s editor Anna Wintour. The September Issue, is a film about the making of the magazine’s landmark issue in September 2007. The film chronicles her work on the five-pound (2 kg) 840-page issue, the largest issue Vogue ever sent to press. anna-wintour-62508-12

It was fascinating to watch and reminded me of my fashion days working on fashion shows and being totally into fashion. What I admired most is the way she was unapologetic about her vision. Decisive, clear, resolute. Simply amazing. But are these traits celebrated in women as they are in men? From how some press reacts about her one would think not. She’s been called the ice queen and much worse. But from how I saw her in the documentary she was a  strong business woman. Again with the double standards…

By the way, supposedly the movie “The Devil Wears Prada” was based on her.

Either way, it reminded me to stop doubting MY vision. There comes a point when I complete a design, stand back and look at it. I either say wow! that looks great!…or hmm that looks ok. I’ve learned to listen to both because one inspires and the other just needs to be trashed.

  1. I loved this movie. Such a broad look at how creating a magazine moves and changes. Lots of great fashion movies out there. The new Diana Vreeland, Halston, Valentino….

    😉

    1. Oh I just saw Halston Condifendential is was pretty good. Been on a fashion designer movie/documentary kick lately. Saw the sweetest documentary about Bill Cunningham the guy that takes all the photos for the New York Times. Check this out.
